Should I get perimeter
security?
Perimeter Security can easily double or triple the cost of
a cheaper alarm. Is it worth it?
Case Study - Perimeter Security
Standing in a friends house earlier this year, she was
trying to figure out why the burglars that had stolen her laptop
the previous day had made an entry at three different
points.
This was a house with a standard alarm and sensors in the hall,
lounge and bedrooms. The back door glass had been removed,
providing access to a laptop on the kitchen table, but although the
hall and internal bedroom doors were open, they had also broken in
by cutting securistays on two of the front bedroom windows - in
plain sight of the road and neighbours.
Once the police arrived they explained the mystery.
Burglars are aware that goods of any decent value are located in
houses with alarms and that rather than break a window and
running through the house grabbing what they can while the sirens
are sounding, they now make entry at several points, trying to
reach items without setting the internal PIR's off.
Had my friends house had a perimeter security system, the sirens
would have gone off before they had actually gained access, and the
burglary would not have happened.
Is the additional cost of a perimeter security system worth it?
You bet it is. Visit www.aa.net.nz for more
